Heady About Pranks?
We had one prank phone call we employed to great effect many times. Home phones (for the young readers) had extensions around the house, all one line. We’d go to two phones, call someone, and while it was ringing, we would start a complex, heated conversation. When the victim, dialled at random, picked up, we’d keep talking and then act like someone was interrupting our call. “Do you hear a voice?”
It was satisfying because it was powerfully confusing, and it was really fun to experiment with people’s minds and see what they did. Most people stayed on for a while trying to suss out what was going on; some just hung up (smart); one victim was a fellow student who became a friend.
