How About Another Cup?
I told a friend I was doing another series about Climate Etc, and he raised an eyebrow and asked if I was sure that was a good idea? It was a fair question. The same friend - let’s call him “Steve” just so we have something to call him. Let’s even throw in the fun creative flourish that his legal name is actually Steve - not Steven, not short for anything. So poor Steve has many times witnessed my losing my mind and/or getting depressed over climate shit. He was there the day we all learned that all the plastic recycling we’d been doing since the 90s had been BS, for example. We’ve talked about it a lot. So: his was a fair question.
But also in conversations with “Steve”, I’ve been able to learn to see how I really tend to take it all very personally, and to see that it’s unnecessary and unhealthy. That lesson is a big part of why I feel better lately. It’s that sort of lesson I want to explore here, along with - you know - everything that crosses my mind. Probably some robots.
Music About Climate Stuff
a little radio play:
MOUSE: In the times before Big Oil’s gaslighting campaign, in the late 80’s, people knew. They wrote songs about the environment and capitalism and even climate change. Let’s listen:
BALL: (doing his best Casey Kasem) Our first song is by the appropriately-named Dream Academy! Best known for the wistful first track of their first album (Life in a Northern Town), today’s song is the third last track on their little known third album A Different Kind of Weather!
Here - from 1990, but not really comprehended til just now - is Forest Fire.
I hope you’re doing alright. Staying cool, finding and sharing love. Stuff like that.
Peace out,
