Dear darlings -
About once a year I hit a wall and can’t write. Or rather, I can’t get behind what I’m writing. If you look through my old strips, it is a solid pattern. And since I’ve chosen a weekly format, it’s a problem. “Problem.” I have written many strips for this space, but they’re not working for me. The yearly wall.
I can’t sit still, so I’ve been playing with and learning about this new (to me) instrument - the Maschine MK3. Jeff Gibbons (below) has been my main teacher.
I find a big shift in focus often clarifying, so playing with wordless music is pretty different from writing comics. Musically, even, I’m not quite clear how what I’ve been making fits into my prior sense of what a song is. It’s a fun leap. Mind expanding.
I won’t insult you by sharing the un-right comics. I have a feeling the mood is lifting. Here’s some of the sequencer/sampler based stuff I’ve been making in the meantime.
I’ll see you next time for, hopefully, stories with pictures.
Stay healthy.
